Hi there! My name is Sarah Roberts and I’m a primary school teacher with a passion for phonics.
Teaching young children how to read and write is an incredibly rewarding experience, and I believe that phonics is the foundation for success in literacy.
I have over 15 years of experience teaching phonics to children in primary schools. I believe in creating a fun and engaging learning environment where children feel safe to take risks and make mistakes.
Outside of teaching, I have 2 boys aged 3 and 7. I thought I was an expert in teaching phonics until I had a child of my own! Wow! Home learning is a whole different ball game. I quickly realised that teaching my own child to read was way more difficult than teaching 30 children at once! When trying to share the load with my husband, it dawned on me that there wasn’t much advice/support/resources out there on how to teach your child phonics.
Learning at home can’t be the same as learning in a more formal environment. That’s how this website came about. I taught my son how to read by playing games, competing in challenges in the garden, playing letter games in the bath and of course, reading bedtime stories.
While exploring phonicsonline.co.uk, hopefully, you’ll find useful information about early reading, handy tips and tricks and also some great resources to support your child’s journey to becoming a reader.
Thank you for taking the time to read a little bit about me and remember every child is on their own journey- celebrate the small wins!
Sarah
